Montrose Music Festival have secured the fantastic Average White Band to open the festival with a concert in the Town Hall on Friday evening.

Second support is provided by the irrepressible groove of Glasgow's funk-rockers Brown Eye Superfly, with opening support from the winners of our auditions,
young alternative rock band from Dundee, The Floor.

Some of the best bands from the auditions will be invited to play at a free concert for younger music fans being held in Montrose Town Hall on Saturday afternoon and evening.

Montrose Rope & Sail, Petrofac Training, Merpro and GSK confirmed as significant sponsors of the festival.

Donations large and small have been received with thanks from various businesses, groups and individuals.

Interest in the festival continues at pace, with new events, venues and artists regularly being added to the weekend schedule.

AVERAGE WHITE BAND
AWB was formed in 1971 by Alan Gorrie (Perth) and Malcolm "Molly" Duncan (Montrose), with Onnie McIntyre (Lennoxtown), Hamish Stuart (Glasgow), Roger Ball (Broughty Ferry) and Robbie McIntosh (Dundee) joining them in the original line-up.

Their current line-up sees original members Alan Gorrie and Onnie McIntyre joined by Klyde Jones, Fred "Freddy V" Vigdor and Rocky Bryant

Now based in the US, AWB are widely regarded as one of the best soul and funk bands in the history of music.

Saturday & Sunday:
Free entry to all gigs and events throughout Saturday and Sunday.

Gigs to be hosted all weekend in official venues throughout the town, featuring live performances of all styles from top local and national bands and musicians. See the What's On page for details of gigs. See the Artists page for more info on bands and musicians.

As well as some hosted traditional and bluegrass music sessions, open sessions are welcome in some of the official venues between gigs for those that want to bring along an instrument and either start up a session or join in on one.

There's something for all in Montrose High Street throughout the morning and afternoon on Saturday with buskers, street performers, food stalls and more.

A free concert for younger music fans will be held in Montrose Town Hall on Saturday afternoon and evening with music being provided by some of the best bands from the auditions for the opening support slot. Further details to be announced.

Sunday will see the same standard of gigs throughout the afternoon and early evening and finish up with a survivors gathering at one of the venues, consisting of open mic concert with buffet provided. Musicians and music fans alike are very welcome.
