On 24th May, just prior to their appearance in Montrose, Southern Tenant Folk Union release their third Album entitled “The New Farming Scene”.

A groundbreaking Album to start the new decade, The New Farming Scene creates the first true crossover of the modern folk tradition with the old time American Bluegrass sound. With their bluegrass instrumentation, Southern Tenant Folk Union bolster and enrich both old time Americana and traditional Scottish folk melodies. The seven members of the Band produce wonderful vocal harmonies, augmented by an instrumental line up which includes fiddle, mandolin, banjo, double bass, guitars and percussion.

The current line up of the Band have previously played with amongst other The Coal Porters, The Peatbog Fairies, The Eliza Carthy Band and The Aliens.

MONTROSE Music Festival in conjunction with Regular Music have announced that The Proclaimers will play at the Town Hall this June.

Twins Charlie and Craig Reid will take to the Town Hall stage on June 4, in a specially arranged gig just after the festival weekend.

Full details of the festival itself – which will run from May 28-30 - will be announced later, but news that arguably Scotland's most famous band is set to play in Angus will no doubt stir up a significant amount of excitement.

Chair of the festival committee, Lynda Paton, is expecting to be inundated with enquiries when tickets go on sale locally at the Black Abbot's function suite, Coronation Way, this Saturday from 10am.

She said: “Ever since we started organising Montrose Music Festival, there have been rumours that the Proclaimers would be playing – they are that popular.

“We're delighted to confirm that this year, there need be no rumours as the Proclaimers will play at MMF 2010.

“It's another massive coup for us and yet more confirmation that Montrose Music Festival is building its reputation as one of the finest local musical events in the country.

“What is without doubt is that there will be a lot of interest in this gig, probably more than for any other act we've had so far, so we're preparing for a busy day of ticket sales.”

The committee are anticipating a high level of interest, so tickets are sold on a first-come first-served basis, limited to two tickets per customer. Cash sales only.

With The Proclaimers being responsible for hits such as Letter From America, Sunshine on Leith and I'm On My Way - not forgetting I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) – the Town Hall atmosphere is set to be more electric than ever.

Lynda believes the news highlights the festival committee's determination to repeatedly build on the success of the previous year.

She said: “We've made a concerted effort not to simply meet the required standard – we want to exceed the standards we've set in the past and will continue to head in that direction.

“Hopefully, the people of Montrose – and indeed the people of Angus - will continue to show us the same support we've enjoyed in the past and allow us to make Montrose Music Festival 2010 the best yet!”

New licensing laws require that under 18s going to the gig are accompanied by an adult.

Tickets for the gig will also be sold online at seetickets.com from Friday February 26.
