RAISE MONEY FOR LOCAL MUSIC GROUP

DOSS: Music From Montrose is a CD put together by local musicians Stooshy and Late Landing’s Nicky Piece, and is being sold to raise money for the YM Music Group.

The YM Music Group allows young kids who would otherwise be unable to afford expensive tuition, to pick up an instrument and learn alongside their peers, at their own pace. The group is a hugely important part of the local music scene, as many of the young bands, including Late Landing, Toke, Stooshy, and many others have attended the group in the past, and it has been a huge influence of the musicians they have become. As well as this, the YM has doubled as a studio, and bands like Medicine Well, The Mandrakes and If All Else Fails have all recorded music there, with fantastic and professional-grade results.

The CD was conceived as a way for all these local bands to “give back” to the YM, and show their gratitude for the years of dedication and commitment that have provided young musicians. As well as this, its also a real investment in the future of live music in Montrose, as the youngsters there now will undoubtedly be rocking out at Mo Fests to come! The music group is run by Mo Dickson and Terry Hadden, and overseen by Val Cooper, who runs the YM as a whole.

The CD will be for sale at the music festival, on the official merchandise stand during the High Street event, and at some venues and shops around town, see below. For a little extra, you can have one delivered to your door today, by CLICKING HERE.

The Montrose Music Festival Committee is proud to announce this years Festival headline act is Eddi Reader.

Multi-Brit Award winner Reader is best known both for her work with Fairground Attraction and as a successful solo artist. From the traditional to the contemporary, Eddi brings joyous life to all forms of song.  Her taste in co-writers, writers, songs and players is impeccable and anything with her name on it is a guaranteed musical treasure.  Whilst the perfection of her technique is widely acknowledged, what sets Reader apart is the depth and quality of the emotional performance; her ability not only to move the listener but to connect her experience to that of her audience.  Her passion and instinct move people in a way reminiscent of those who have influenced her work.  Her rare blend of meltingly true vocals and towering romanticism combine with an astute and pragmatic nature to make her a unique and powerful figure in contemporary British music.  She has effortlessly developed into one of popular music’s most thrilling and affecting performers.  Combining pop, folk and jazz elements she is sure to kick off the festival in style.

Support for the show will be State of the Union, featuring long-term Eddi Reader collaborator Boo Hewerdine.  As well as working with Reader, Hewerdine has also written for and produced many well-known artists, including Natalie Imbruglia, Mel C and Alex Parks. Newly elected chairperson, David Paton told the Review, “We had a great
response from the Montrose public and are now getting ready to face the
challenges of organising this year’s festival. We have a wide range of
skills on the committee and have also received the full support of Angus
Council, for which we are very grateful.”

Music fans can expect bigger and better during the 2012 ‘MoFest’ according
to Mr Paton, who also acknowledged the work of the previous committee. “We
owe a huge debt of gratitude to the outgoing committee, and we have big
plans to build on the great success of the last four years,” he added.
